4140 steel annealed at 1600 properties oil quenched

got hooked up with some 4140 steel dies for my bull and now i need some advice quenching them. got a gas forget to heat them, the die block itself goes about 3.4lbs and around 12lbs if with the base plate. Just wondering if my 5 gallons of fast quech oil or canola will be enough. oh my fast quech is a park 50 and they say its suppose to be a good one for the 4140 close to water quenching but a bit mroe gentle but pricey ofc. I can have the same 5 gallons of canola too though im not so sure if its enough. any advice?

@diehardsmith, Park 50 should handle 4140 fine, especially since it's a fast quench oil, but your 5 gallons might be cutting it close depending on your setup, as for canola, it's gentler but not ideal for 4140's temper range, stick with Park 50 if you want consistent results.

With 12 lbs of hot steel going in, 5 gallons might be cutting it close, especially if you're aiming for consistent results. Park 50's great, but it loses efficiency fast if overwhelmed.

Park 50 is actually a good choice for 4140 cos its gentler than water but still effective. 5 gallons should be enough, but if you're doing bigger dies, monitor the oil temp and agitation.
