Buffalo 300 blower

I picked up a buffalo 300 forge blower this week for $75. Not a great price but not a bad price either. It spins well but the gears feel dry inside. I don't know if it has ever been oiled. I brushed all the dirt away from the oil screw on top of the blower. I wrapped a paper towel around it and gave it a good soaking with PB Blaster penetrant to soak down into the threads. Saturday I'll see if that opens easily so I can add lubrication oil to the gears in the gear box. I'm not sure what the difference is between the 300 and 400 blowers. The cast blower case around the fan is a hair over 12 inches wide. I'll have to measure a 400 blower to see if it is bigger.

So I had the opportunity to measure the cast iron fan case on a 400 blower. It is the same size across, 12 and 1/4 inches. both blowers have a 3 inch opening at the bottom. Where you attach the air pipe on both blowers is a bit different. The 400 is a bit beefier built and has a bigger collar. The 400 has 3 legs and the 300 has 4 legs. Other than those few differences, they both function the same.

Wrapping that oiler screw with a paper towel and soaking it with PB Blaster for a couple of days did the trick !! The screw easily unthreaded from the top of the gear case. Now it is time to get some lubrication oil into those gears. I bet it will turn smoother after oiling.
