casting a silver wedding ring

I'm a beginner at metalworking and I’m planning to melt down some old jewelry to cast my wedding ring
I've already made a family shield out of crystal to use as a pattern, but I was wondering if air.
would dry clay work for the mold? I don't mind a rough finish that needs cleaning up, but I'm worried about the mold breaking or causing safety issues when the molten silver hits it. Any advice for a first timer?
