You’re hammering away, your arm is sore, sparks are flying, and that bench or hammer rest feels as hard as concrete against your wrist.
What’s your secret for shock absorption?
Do you rely on rubber, springs, or maybe something custom to keep the work smooth and your wrists feeling good?

A long day at the forge left my wrist sore and bruised. I decided to make a simple leather-wrapped rubber pad for my bench. It didn’t cost much, and it actually does the trick.

There was one winter session where I nearly threw in the towel because my bench just wasn’t forgiving at all. I ended up adding a spring-loaded wooden rest on top of a thin rubber layer. To my surprise, it worked wonders absorbing shock, keeping the hammer stable, and letting me focus on shaping the steel instead of dealing with sore joints.

I once bruised my forearm so badly that I had to take a week off from a project.
Now, I’ve got a thick rubber mat under my workpiece and a cushioned hammer rest.
t’s nothing too fancy, but my wrists are grateful, and I can hammer away for longer without wincing
