thinking about switching to a ribbon burner for my next forge but not sure if it's actually more efficient than a venturi burner i see people claiming they can run at super low psi but does that really mean less fuel consumption or just more even heat distribution seems like more burner ports would mean more overall gas use anyone with firsthand experience know if it's actually a fuel saver or just better for heat control
 
Ribbon burners are great for even heat distribution, but they're not necessarily more fuel-efficient than venturi burners. The low PSI claims are true, but fuel consumption depends on total gas flow, not just pressure. More ports mean more even heating, but they can still use a lot of gas. That said, ribbon burners can be more efficient in the sense that they heat the forge more evenly, reducing cold spots and potentially shortening heat-up times. If you're doing a lot of forge welding or need consistent temps, they're a solid upgrade but if fuel savings are your main concern, a well-tuned venturi burner might still be the better bet.

Used a ribbon burner a while now, the heat is more even, flame is quieter and stable but.... its not a huge fuel saver despite the low psi claims, but okay enough for consistent forging heat.

Ribbon betters generally are ok with heat distribution so the forging temperatures can be more even. Agree with both commenters before me. As for me I find ribbon burners more efficient for my needs but really it still depends on the work done and the temperature range you wanna work with.

You got the general consensus about ribbon burners being better at even heat distribution!
From what I've seen, the super low PSI claims translate to lower fuel consumption at that low setting.
But it still depends on what you're forging.
The more ports = more gas idea makes sense on the surface, but because the heat is so uniform, you might not need to run the forge as hot overall to get the same results on your workpiece.
It's a bit of a trade-off between initial fuel input and the efficiency of the heat transfer to your steel.
