rail spike ideas

I was bored after making a ton of bottle openers, so I decided to see how far I could stretch a railroad spike.
I managed to draw it out to 600mm, it's a hard work without a power hammer haha
it’s basically a decorative piece now, but it shows just how much steel is in one of these

I know some smiths make steak flippers or knives, but what else are you guys forging out of them?
Looking for some fresh blacksmithing project ideas for railroad spikes. let me know what are you ideas!

this remind me of my dad, haha. he leaves about an inch on the pointy end as is, then flattens and spreads it a bit like a spatula. tadaaa... a nice back scratcher!

That’s really impressive. Stretching a railroad spike like that isn’t easy. I’ve turned a few into hooks and wall hangers myself. If you’re hunting for more ideas, how about making a custom keychain or bottle opener? It keeps that steel giving you something useful

Great job on the spike. I’ve used them to make everything from rustic drawer pulls to campfire forks. A solid spike can turn into a nice knife or hook but I’m always eager for fresh ideas.
