Been doing my own research and ive learn these so far. there has been discussions going on about 1018 vs the astm a36, i just want to review the facts. feel free to add some and give insights and thoughts. so lets start with the a36 mild steel, it is the most common hot rolled steel you can find and since its hot rolled the surface is rough and it comes in different beams and shapes. It bends easier than the 1018 meaning its weaker. its harder to machine therefore its usually much cheaper.

The alloy 1018 on the other hand is the most common cold rolled steel and is typically found in rods and bars. known as a good all around steel balancing strength and flexibility and machinability as well. compared to the a36 cold rolling means it has a smoother surface and improved characteristics.
