Best beginner steels for learning heat control?

Alright, newbie smiths and mentors! What are the best steel types for folks learning the ropes and trying to get a handle on heat control? I’m curious to hear your go-to recommendations!

I kicked things off with 5160 steel. It's pretty chill with heat and bangs, which is great for hammering and getting a feel for the forge's temperature. It really helped me get comfortable before I messed with tougher metals

I messed around with basic 1018 mild steel just to get a grip on heat zones and tempering without the stress of everything going to hell. It’s good for getting your heat control down before moving to the high-carbon blades.

When I was starting, I went with 1084. Heats up evenly and doesn't throw a fit if you get the temperature a bit too high. Managed to make some decent knives while I got the hang of timing and keeping the heat steady.
