have u tried building a treadle hammer?

What do i need to build one? i mostly work alone so i will need both of my hands. what about a power hammer>? i think the treadle hammer is a cheaper option though.
 
depends on your budget and preference. if youre fine with a slower tempo and and dont mind frequent breaks the treadle will be fine for you. the power tools are good but they cost more and aren't something a honbist would go for. at the end of the day its up to you to decide

I haven't done one. I'm still in the early stages of my blacksmithing and I think that's too advanced. But I'm following this thread for when the time comes.
 
Treadle hammer is actually a better choice to start with, it's cheaper, takes up less space, and gives you good control without taking up too much power and also you can keep both hands on the workpiece and let your foot do the striking. It's also way easier to build yourself compared to a power hammer.
