Molten metal mishaps lessons learned

Let’s discuss those instances that didn’t turn out as we envisioned, be it a cracked mold, a surprise splashback, or a pour that solidified too quickly. What occurred, what led to it, and most importantly, what did you learn from the experience?

I had a resin pour that cured way too quickly during a humid summer, which resulted in bubbles and cracks. I’ve learned to always check the temp and humidity before mixing, and to slow down the catalyst when necessary

I had a 12 inch pure lead pipe of small diameter I was melting down. I stuck the end into my lead pot with the other half sticking out of the pot. I'm glad it was facing away from me as when it started to melt, a molten blob of lead shot out of the end of the pipe like a bullet across the garage. That was weird.
