You’re looking at your anvil, hammer ready, and you can’t help but wonder if it’s bouncing back the way it’s supposed to. What’s a quick trick or test you use to check the rebound before diving into shaping metal? We’d love to hear your favorite methods.

I stick to the old ball bearing drop test. If it bounces back close to where I dropped it, I’m satisfied. It’s fast, straightforward, and always reliable.

The first thing I figured out, give it a quick hammer tap and see how it feels. A solid anvil has some feedback. If it feels dull, something’s not right. Your hands pick up on it quickly.

Whenever I set up a new anvil, I drop a bearing to hear the sound. A good bounce along with a nice ring means it's set. If it barely moves, I check the stand and how it’s mounted
