So, yesterday I was helping my nephew with his go-kart, and out of nowhere, he asked if Santa is real. The kid's nine! I was caught off guard and didn't want to ruin the fun, so I avoided the question. It made me think about when I stopped believing. I think I was seven or eight. I found presents stashed in my parents' closet when I was looking for my dad's toolbox. I still pretended to believe for a couple of years since I didn't want to disappoint my parents.

When did you all stop believing in Santa? Did you figure it out yourself, or did someone tell you?

A few years ago, I had a similar moment with my cousin that completely took me by surprise. I stopped believing around the age of eight too, after I realized the wrapping paper labeled Santa looked just like my mom's stash. I still played along for a bit just to keep the magic going for everyone else.

It really clicked for me when I turned nine. One early morning, I woke up to find my dad trying to put together a bike in the living room. He looked like he'd seen a ghost. I didn’t say a word, but that was the moment everything about Santa changed for me.

I figured it out myself when I was about seven. My parents weren’t exactly discreet — the tags on the “Santa gifts” were written in my mom's handwriting. Honestly, it didn’t bother me much. I kept up the act because the excitement of Christmas morning was still too good to give up.
