Everyone has their own favorite when it comes to hammer weight. Some folks swear by a lighter swing for better control, while others prefer a heavier hammer for that solid impact. What’s your go-to hammer weight? Cast your vote and let us know why it works best for you!

I use a personally forged cross peen weighing 1 5/8 lbs. with a 16" handle. The length of the handle allows me to create considerable force when needed ( velocity times mass squared ) while the lightness of the hammer allows for more blows per heat.
With this hammer I work stock up to 3/4" square efficiently and for larger stock 7/8" to 1" square I use a similar hammer of 2 lbs., most things larger are forged under the power hammer.

That’s an impressive setup. It seems like you’ve truly found the right balance between speed and power.
