After years of swinging a hammer and lugging around heavy steel, I’ve figured out that staying fit really makes a difference. I’ve started adding some stretching and light strength training to my routine, and it’s been more beneficial than I anticipated.

How do you all keep in shape for the heavy lifting and hammering? Any routines, tips, or habits that help you stay strong?

So, for a couple of years now, I've been doing some push-ups and squats each morning. Started it after a really rough week of forging, and it really helps my arms and legs. Makes those long days at the anvil way easier.

Started running a few times a week 'cause my buddy kept complaining about his back from all the heavy lifting. It's crazy how much even a little cardio helps when you're swinging a hammer and moving steel all day long.

And I try to stretch my shoulders and forearms before and after hammering. I learned that the hard way after a big project where I pulled something. It's kept me from getting all stiff and achy ever since.
