Propane forge that will not reach welding heat

You’ve got your forge all fired up and the torch is glowing, but it just won’t hit that welding temperature. What are your go-to tips, quick checks, or clever adjustments to get a propane forge roaring like it’s meant to?

Start by checking your air-to-fuel ratio.
Too much air cools things down, while too little causes incomplete combustion.
And don't forget to unclog the burner, it only takes a couple of minutes to clean the orifice.

Insulation plays a big role. If your forge has gaps or thin areas, it won't reach the right temp no matter how much gas you use. Seal any cracks with refractory cement right away.

Don't underestimate regulator pressure. Try increasing it by a few PSI to see if that helps. Also, close off any openings as tightly as you can, gaps will cause heat loss. A smaller forge entrance means a hotter forge it’s just basic physics.
